How to Stop Overthinking

Tonight’s blog is about how to stop overthinking shit when you’re trying to do things out of your comfort zone.

How do you stop overthinking things when you want to try something you’re not used to?

So here’s the deal with the overthinking thing. When you overthink shit, you’re doing one of two things. I got this whole long explanation of this and on the seminars, but you’re either ruminating on the past and not living in the moment. Or you’re thinking about the future, and not living in the moment.

Live in the moment, not in the future

And I’m not going to get all crazy Buddhists on you. That’s way later in this video series. But the thing with overthinking is you start projecting off into the future, or we call it future projection, all the things that could be happening, and then you try to change your behavior to predict the odds of whatever could be happening.

Just don’t do that. You don’t have control of that, you know, you can’t properly plan out certainty into the future. And if you could, then you wouldn’t have a problem with overthinking that thing. Right? It’s kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.

It’s not the word. It’s kind of like when you have a problem with overthinking shit, you need to need to stop. When you don’t have a problem with overthinking shit, then you’ve already kind of mastered it, and you don’t need to worry about it, right. There’s always a balance, you can strike.

But if you’re afraid to take action based on what could happen, you know, obviously, you got yourself wisdom that you’ve gotten from your past experiences. And if you’re in a completely new space, then you’re going to get some wisdom now with the new thing that you’re trying. So very often, we’re our own worst enemy.

Safety is your enemy

And when we don’t know what to do, rather than get data and try to figure out how to be good at it, we just kind of don’t take action and stick with what’s safe. And that holds us back more than anything else. So I’m gonna talk about limiting beliefs.

It’s gonna be a pretty long video because I have actually, I’ve structured points for it. But the more we overthink shit, and we don’t sort of trust our gut and move forward, the less forward we move.

Conclusion

So my challenge for you is to come up with something that You’re overthinking on a regular basis, whether it’s approaching somebody new or, you know, going to a new event or place without you know, figure it out without worrying like worrying about what people are gonna think or whatever. And then just say, fuck it, do it.
